| Misconceptions Reducing the Amps used and raising the Power Factor, will offset the reduced Amps and not reduce Watts. Lets start this section with a few formulas. (Single phase AC) Watts = Volts x Amps x PF (Power Factor) The Kvar Unit Reduced the Amps used and raises the PF. Even though the unit raises the PF it still reduces the Watts used. as PF will be less then 1.0 while the amp reduction is much greater then that. So they don't "Off-set" each other in the equation like some people think. Example: Test box with 1/3 hp motor Initial results: Volts=124 Amps=5.7 PF=.27 Watts=204. Optimized PF with the Kvar Unit Volts=124 Amps=1.6 PF=.93 Watts=184. a 10% drop in Watts used. |
